Urban Forestry plan to help grow tree canopy
The Sarasota County Commission Tuesday approved the preliminary five-year Urban Forestry Strategic Plan, which will be used to create a performance-driven urban forest that integrates green with built infrastructure.  (read more..)

Urban Forestry to begin median restoration
Sarasota County’s Division of Urban Forestry is restoring or replacing some of the plantings in the median of Tuttle Avenue between Bee Ridge Road and Myrtle Street.

The work will include replacing trees and palms that are in decline, or no longer practical for median plantings, according to Urban Forestry Manager Demetra McBride.

Manasota Key tree trimming completed
The Sarasota County Urban Forestry Division’s tree-trimming project along a 5.16-mile stretch of Manasota Key Road from the Charlotte County line to Manasota Beach Road has been completed.  (read more..)

Urban Forestry receives two Tree City national awards
The Urban Forestry Division of Public Works has received two national Tree City awards from the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Sarasota County was named a Tree City USA. This is the 15th consecutive year the county has received this award, which recognizes the county’s commitment to its community forest. Sarasota was the first county in Florida to receive this award.
